Our Story

Founded in 2017

Serving Southern Brooklyn’s diverse immigrant communities

APNA Community Services began as a grassroots response to the unmet needs of immigrant communities in Southern Brooklyn in 2017 with a mission to build bridges through community engagement, education, and empowerment.

The Brooklyn neighborhoods of Brighton Beach and Coney Island, which are home to diverse communities of recent immigrants from countries including Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and several Central American countries. Members of these communities often are not native English speakers and have difficulty navigating government and non-profit social service systems. APNA’s services are now city-wide, and individuals are coming from all five boroughs and Nassau County to get needed services and support from APNA.

With ten staff members and 50+ dedicated volunteers who speak English, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Spanish, Ukrainian, Arabic, Pashto, Dari, and Russian, APNA now operates out of two locations in Brooklyn and has a food pantry in Brighton Beach.
